A lil homesick
Jack trudged along the pathways to the lake. This was the one place he had memorised the path to and the only place that truly reminded him of home. He didn't know what to make of his emotions at the minute, he'd never suffered from homesickness before, since his home had been...well...everywhere...but it just wasn't here.
The pirate stood on the bank and looked out over the still waters and around himself at the forest and fields stuck in perpetual summer. It freaked him out a little. Jack never had had a amazing sense of time but he knew it should be cold now...and it wasn't, there was a cool breeze and a gentle sun all the time. It just wasn't right. Then he saw the island, right in the middle of the lake, a little cluster of rocks with a small scattering of grass. "Right" he clapped his hands together in determination "Lets test some stuff out shall I" Kneeling he placed a hand in the shallows and concentrated, then ever so slighty a the water solidified and a cold feeling tingled in his fingers. Glancing down he saw he had managed to create a thick plate of ice and he bravely tested it by hitting it with a fist. "OW ya lil sod ya!" he yelled clutching his hand and sucking in sharp breath in pain. "Well..at least its stable" he murmured and plopped down on the bank, resting his feet on the ice.
The pirate looked out grumpily toward the lake and his feelings seemed to filter out into the atmosphere around him because out of nowhere fat flakes of snow floated down around him and dissolved in the grass. Jack was making it snow, even if it was only a veil around himself. "I'm so bored....urgh" he snapped a piece of ice of the plate on the water, pulled out a knife and started chipping expertly away at the material, completly unphased by the snow...it was like he hadn't realized he was doing it.

(Poor Jack ;3;, Mind if I join in?)
Adonia was, once again, spending her time at the lake. She spent most of her time here lately, trying to find some semblance of home in the cool waters.
She floated along on her back, closing her eyes, willing herself to feel at home, but it just wasn't the same. The air was balmy and lightly flowery, but she missed the salty smell of the ocean and the unpredictable currents and winds.
As she lay there, she suddenly felt a bit of coldness on her cheek. Opening her eyes, she was surprised to see now floating down around her. Snow? In the Athenaeum? How was that possible in a place of eternal spring?
She turned herself upright looking for the source of the snow and spied a figure sitting on the shore looking rather morose. It was Jack. She blushed at the memory of their last encounter, and though she knew it was probably not the best idea, she dove under the surface an began to swim towards the shore cautiously. From under the water, she watched him for a bit, she had never seen him looking so sad.

Re: A lil homesick
((No I don't mind at all xD))
Jack held up his sculpture to look at it skeptically. The tail on the ice whale looked a little large and he went back to work wittling away the ice that was kept cold in his grip. "There's nothing natural about this place" he grumbled as he shaped the tail as he remembered what they looked like. Content with the finished animal he set it down beside him with all the other figures he'd carved. The whale was added to the collection of a octopus, elephant, horse, bear, a random fish and a snowman with a friendly, smiley face. "Right..." Jack snapped off another piece of ice, but as he leaned over the shrinking lump of frosty water he thought he caught a glimpse of something humanoid under the surface. The pirate rocked back a little confused and held his head "I'm going mad..." he muttered as he set to work carving another shape.

Adonia watched him carve the little figurines out of the ice in awe. When she had first met the pirate, he had struck her a brash, rather rude and cocky young man without a stitch of sympathy or gentleness to him. However, the more time she spent around him, the more she began to wonder if she had been wrong about him.
She inhaled sharply when he looked right at her, mumbling and shaking his head before going back to his carving. For a moment, she considered leaving him to his thoughts... but she couldn't jut leave him all alone in such a state, so she carefully poked her head around the sheet of ice and out of the water, hoping not to startle him.
"That's beautiful work you have there" she said quietly.

Re: A lil homesick
Jack yelled and nearly threw the globe he had carved at the head that poked out of the water, but when he noticed it was the familiar siren he relaxed and his face lit up with a smile. "Hey there Adonia, how yer doing this fine...." he was going to say winter evening but obviously that was wrong "..evening" He looked at the smooth surface of the orb he had carved and smiled as he held it to his lips and he blew gently. Then inside little flakes of snow swirled around inside and with a wide smirk he shook it gently, causing a mini blizzard in the ice ball. Jack set the snowglobe down next to the other carvings and looked at them quizically "Their nuthin, just a hobby of mine..." He snapped another piece of the floating slab of ice and played with it in his hands. "Now what are yer doing, causing more havoc ya little mischief maker" The pirate looked at Adonia with gleeful glints in his eye, the snow still falling around himself and gathering in a small pile on his hair. "Hmmm I betcha are"

Re: A lil homesick
Adonia flinched as he almost hurled the globe at her. "Well hello to you too" she giggled. "I'm very well thank-" she stopped mid-sentence, watching in gleefully as he created the snow globe.
She blushed a bit at his reference to her last visit with him. "No... not yet anyway" she said with a grin, using her water magic to allow her to rise up and stand on the water, the water section of her dress re-forming as she left the water and sat next to him.
"I've finished with the clothes" she said giggling as she spied the pile of snow on his head, and dusting it out of his hair gently. "Thank you for letting me .. er... 'borrow' them" she said with a light blush, looking rather sheepish.

Re: A lil homesick
"Aye, aye" he nodded understandingley before winking "Well I didn't have much choice in the matter now did I?" He laughed and picked up the snowglobe, rolling it around in front of him, causing further havoc inside the orb. Jack sneezed while Adonia was dusting the snow off his head and he looked a little dazed. "Woah...a pretty girl must be thinking about me somewhere" he sneezed again into his shirt "I must be occupying a lot of thoughts" Jack smiled and finally noticed the snow that hadn't dissolved yet. "Aye I'm making it snow, thats a first" he gazed lopsidely at the siren and put on a casual, lazy smile. "Well then what are ya doing out here anyways, pray tell your not harassing the pretty boys and stealin away there hearts like the little looter yer are?"

Re: A lil homesick
Adonia cocked her head, confused by his reference to the sneeze superstition having no knowledge of superstitions. "A pretty girl?" she said curious.
She looked up as he commented on the snow. "So that's where the snow is coming from? I never knew one could do that with water magic" she mused.
Hearing his final comment, she gave him playful glare. "I most certainly do no such thing. I-... Well, the truth is I came out here because I felt a bit homesick is all... plus I figured I would sneak out now rather than wait for dark when the teacher start patrolling.... I'm generally nocturnal, so I don't usually get much sleep in this place" she said with an awkward grin.

Re: A lil homesick
Jack smiled and waved away the superstition lazily "Just something I picked up when I was younger, when yer sneeze either a pretty girl or a pretty boy is thinking about yer...I just hope for my sake its a girl thinking about me" Jack feighed nervousness that was shattered as he resumed his smile and laid back on the grassy bank as if he had all the time in the world. "Well if ya think about it" he began "Water magic is a tie in with ice magic and snow is like ice...it snows when its too cold for rain, I like weather like that" Gazing dreamily down over the water as he listened to Adonia talking, the sound of her voice lulled him into deeper relaxation. "Aye homesickness....is that what this is...." Jack looked at his hands in thought and dusted his knee's off from the scattering of snowflakes. "Snow is lovely ain't it? Ice is beautiful aswell, they hold beauty in different ways so you can't really compare them together..."

She listened closely to Jack's explanation about water and ice, smiling dreamily and leaning back on her hands, tilting her head back, closing her eyes and enjoying the cool of the snow on her face.
"Yes they are," she mused quietly, smiling a bit, eyes still shut, enjoying the snow. "I always did love snow, though I never knew its name until I came here." she said softly remembering how much she had loved playing in the snow as a child. "I wish I knew how to make it." she said.

Re: A lil homesick
"I loved the snow and ice, sailing across the frozen sea's was indeed a tedious but beautiful experience, having to dig the ship out of the ice was the bad part but sailing under arches of frozen water stuck mid wave was amazing" Jack babbled ahead of himself before
"I wish I knew how to make it."
Jack sat up and looked up to where the snow was drifting out of nowhere. "I don't know how I do it...I mean I didn't know I was until you pointed it out to me...I think" Jack drummed his fingers on his knee's and watched as the cold sting of the snow bit his fingertips. "I think you 'ave to draw on your memories of snow and it will come out as to what your feeling. I mean don't think about it when your angry or you'll 'ave a blizzard round yer"

Re: A lil homesick
Adonia opened her eyes and considered that a moment, before straightening up and attempting to summon some snow.
She allowed her mind to be filled with her memories of quiet winter evenings on her island watching now drift down from the sky. A sad smile crossed her face as she thought of the home she had left behind.
She peered at Jack out of the corner of her eye while she worked wondering how he had come to be in the athenaeum in the first place. Remembering how he had behaved before she had revealed her presence earlier, she then stopped her work and turned to face him.
"Pardon me if I'm being to forward," Adonia began hesitantly. "But are you unhappy here? Not to pry, but you seem less... well... badly behaved than normal." She had to fight to supress a grin. "... And earlier you looked positively mournful!" she said cocking her head and searching his face as if thinking the answers might be written on it somewhere.

Re: A lil homesick
The sirens attempts made Jack smile and relax slightly, elbows slipping on the grass till he unexpectely fell backwards with a suprised 'woop'. His small laughter was cut short by Adonia question. "Naw I'm not unhappy, I'm just feeling a lil' poorly thats all" his smile faltered for the smallest moment as he wondered why he was so sad on his own. Even in his dreams he surrounded himself with friends so he wouldn't be lonely. "Aye, I'm not that badly behaved am I?" he asked pouting childishly and crossing his arms to his chest, before dropping them slowly to his side. "Umm I dunno...I guess I came here fer a reason but..." he twiddled with the laces that criss-crossed his shirt, then shrugged and replaced his thoughtfull frown with the usual beaming smile. "heh I dunno...gimme yer theories and I'll see what sounds best"

Adonia couldn't help but grin as he pouted at her. "No" she admitted with a giggle, patting his head. "There are times when you can be positively charming," she said, her face turning ever so slightly pink.
"My theories?" she said surprised. She nervously fiddled with the large silver and sapphire "broach" that hung around her neck for a moment before answering. "W-well...you seem..... lonely." she finally said, still fiddling with the broach, not looking at him.

Re: A lil homesick
Jack purred when Adonia patted him on the head and then smiled at her blushing. "Aww thank you miss, I do try my best, really I do" his playful smile turned more sombre when he heard her theory and the siren had accidently touched a nerve with it. "Thats a nice necklace yer got thar" he smirked warmly again to change the subject, gesturing with a nod to the trinket Adonia was wearing. "Pretty, mines made outta stone so it can't really compare to something as beatiful as that" Jack started to fiddle with his necklace, the heavy stone symbol felt smooth but in some places damaged but that just made Jack love it more. It had been a gift after all.
Maybe it was time to face up to the issue at hand and quit running away like a coward
Inhaling deeply, he let the stone thud again onto his chest and he wrapped his fingers around the blades of grass, however lacked the heart to pull them out. "hmmm a lil' lonely...I'm used to been wi' people yer see..so....yeh" The pirate finished lamely and stared out over the lake again, eyes muted and a smile that didn't hold any happiness.

Re: A lil homesick
Adonia watched him carefully noting his little blush and the shadow that passed over his face at the mention of loneliness.
When he mentioned her necklace she responded, "I've had it for a long time now." she said touching the blue stone in the center. "I found it years ago while exploring a shipwreck off the coast of my islands." She looked up to see the stone he held in his hand. "I think its beautiful" she said warmly. "What symbol is that?"
She was mildly shocked when he finally confirmed her suspicions about his lonliness. She looked up to see him looking at her with a smile that held no happiness or warmth but rather seemed to hold a sadness and a pain. She felt her heart sink a bit at the sight. "Why?" she asked quietly, placing her hand gently on his shoulder. "Did something happen?"
(sorry about the super late reply =3= Its been a busy week >w> By the way, is the nightmare in you latest post from Jack's past? Its a great story. so saaaad T3T)

Re: A lil homesick
"Hmmm its very pretty, almost as nice as you sweet cheeks" Jack smiled a little warmer and looked down at his own bulky necklace, a small trail of blood had dripped down the right side of his face. Quickly brushing it away, he held up the shaped stone and twirled it by the cord "Thats the celtic symbol for water that is, not much really" Jacks relaxing form stiffened again when Adonia layed a gentle hand on his shoulder, acting like she had hit him with a brick on the arm. "I...um...its nothin!" The pirate got on the defensive slightly, the atmosphere turning uncomfortably spiky. He sniffed and wiped away the offending bloody tear track, looking ashamed with himself.

Re: A lil homesick
Adonia blushed profusely at his compliment, eying the little symbol fondly. "Thank you... yours is quite beautiful as well."
She felt the change in him the moment she touched him and drew her hand back hastily. "I-Im sorry" she said blushing once more and looking around nervously, her eyes widening with shock as she saw the blood dripping down his face.
"J-Jack! You're bleeding!" she gasped, her hand reaching for him before she could stop herself.
(Ohmagosh awesome XD Now I'm tempted to dump little ol insomniac Adonia in there to see what he'll do to her XDDD)

Re: A lil homesick
"Don't apologise!" he snapped and regretted it straight away. But the regret didn't last long, it was just how he was. Feeling her hand wipe away the bloody tears, he shot a arm up to stop her and gently gave Adonia's hand back to her. "Yeh my eye does that" he grumbled, turning his face away from the siren to wipe his tears away himself. Then he got up, stretched his back and without looking at Adonia, spoke softly to her "If you'll excuse me....I have practice to do...y'know....so I don't die..." Jack felt the tingle of another tear sliding lazily down his cheek and preceded to walk briskly away, despite his of drunken swagger. When he left the ice sculptures melted suddenly and the snow stopped, but the icy, bitter chill remained and haunted Jack all the way back to wherever he was walking.

Adonia cringed as Jack snapped at her and pushed her hand away. As she watched his retreating form melt away into the surrounding greenery, a single tear fell from her eye and landed on her hands, still stained with his bloody tears.
