Portraits of friends Empty Portraits of friends

Post by Achlys Adonia Argyris Tue Jan 11, 2011 1:45 am

Adonia sat in a secluded little spot along the edge of the lake, her art materials spilling out of her art bag and spread around her in the thick, soft grass that had been partially flattened from her frequent use of this hiding spot.

The little clearing was cut off from view of those traveling by land due to a thick growth of weeping willows that cocooned the area quite nicely. Adonia had discovered it a few days ago and had been coming to sketch here every day after finishing her work ever since... Whenever she couldn't find Jack, that is.

At this moment, she was sitting sketchbook in hand, but the hand that held her pencil was still. She just sat there thinking about everything that had happened that year and everything that was to come.

The page of the book were covered in sketches of her friends, her old home, and her new home. She had taken a break from the picture she was working on to just rest her eyes a moment and take in the quite, but had become distracted by the late afternoon sun filtering through the leaves in bright rays.

Adonia was quite startled at first. She was unable to see quite clearly from the bright light behind the figure as she opened her eyes, but she recognized the mentor's voice.

"Lady Amaranth!" she exclaimed in surprise, looking nervously at the sketches hoping that Amaranth would not see some of them. "Y-yes.. please feel free" she said with a plastic smile, praying that some of the sketches would remain unseen.

Amaranth smiled and gently took the book in her hand and blinked pouting. "Achlys i though we agreed you'd call me Amaranth?" She giggled and smiled looking through the sketchbook, "Your very good Achlys perhaps one day you can sketch me, i'd like that very much." She smiled and blinked smiling at the picture of Jack she found. "Ah the captian. Jack right? He was a fifth year..." She smirked at her. "Do you like him?" Cutting right to the point, she had no issues talking romance since she herself was in one and to be married soon, a bright sapphire ring in the shape of a rose with a diamond in the center adorned her ring finger.

Adonia grinned at Amaranth as she pouted. "I'm sorry Amaranth" she said with a giggle. "I will try to remember from now on."

Adonia gulped as Lady Amaranth came across one of her many sketches of Jack, and looked as though someone had hit her in the face with cold water when Amaranth asked about him. How does everyone keep finding out about this? And why are they so blasted curious about it? she thought to herself.

"W-well.... I mean...." she hung her head and looked up at the siren nervously. "Well... yes... I guess so." she said in the tiniest voice possible, blushing a furious pink. "H-how did you find out?"

Amaranth smiled watching Achlys, eventje shocked look on the younger Sirens face made Ama grin. When Achlys asked how she knew Ama sighed. "Achlys I'm the mentor for Lady Aphrodite, naturally I know all about the couples in the athenaeum." she giggled and continued flipping g through the sirens sketches. "These are all wonderful, you've captured Jack very well in all these pictures." she smiled at Achlys.

Amaranth frowned as she finally closed the book and looked to Achlys. She didn't want people to know, yet most other students did know, there was no use in hiding it. "Achlys, may I offer you some advice if you'd be willing to listen?"

Adonia smiled at Amaranth's praise for her drawings. "Thank you" she murmured, still a bit pink and embarrassed over the entire situation, but it was nice to have someone to confide in.

Adonia was mildly surprised to see Lady Amaranth give her such a serious look. The siren was usually so carefree and... well, a bit silly at times.

"Certainly" she said looking back. She was curious, though still wary. "Goodness knows I could use some..." she added looking sheepish.

Amaranth finally smiled as she accepted her offer for advice. "You shouldn't hide your relationship or your feelings Achlys, if your in love with someone just go for it." She smiled. "The best things come to those who chase their goals and dreams." she pointed to the ring on her finger. "Im sure you know how i persued my fiancee." She giggled softly and sighed looking to the bright sky and using ehr hand to sheild her eyes from the sun. "Its so bright out today." She smiled and looked to Adonia. "You really are a fantastic artist." She smiled.

Adonia listened very carefully to Am's advice. she had to admit it sounded better than always trying to hide it. If only she wasn't so..... skittish around men. Her past experiences had mildly soured her view of men and her chances of being in love, though she was starting to feel more comfortable around them these days.

At her comment about her art, she smiled. "You really think so?" she asked looking down at the picture in her lap.

Amaranth smiled and watched Adonia gazing down at the picture, she nodded as she was asked the question. "Yes, I feel that way...I know as Sirens were a difficult race and we have a horrid horrid reputation. My fianceee's father hates me, i kid you not he's dead set thinking im going to eat the village for supper...and just saying I hate the taste of flesh its not appetizing at all." She stated smiling warmly at Adonia. "Adonia you do realize that if you need any advice ever i am here for you always you can come wake me in the middle of the night i wont cafe im always here."

Adonia looked up from the sketch, smiling at the older siren. "Thank you Amaranth." she said quietly. "It really means a lot to me..." she mused. "I mean, really.. I never had a family or even any friends before I came here.... Its nice to know I have someone to come to."

Amaranth smiled warmly at Adonia and hugged the siren close. "You have me and Ash." She beamed and smiled. "Care for a swim?"

Adonia smiled gratefully. "Sure. that would be lovely" she said scooping her drawings and sketchbooks into her bag. "Race you there!" she called racing toward the water's edge.
