The Ides of March

Eos walked the circuit he had been pacing for awhile now, from the gardens to the fields to the forest and back again. Of course he hadn't known he was pacing. As soon as he realized he was, he fell against the nearest tree and slid to the ground with a defeated sigh.
It wasn't so much he missed Arcadia more than others... because he had barely enough time with his little girl to fall in love with her personality. He only knew that she was his, and that had been good enough for him. It was that she didn't have a chance to experience life. No child should die, especially before their parents. It was the worst kind of hurt in the world. Pain he couldn't even imagine until he experienced it. Akin to a knife being shoved into his heart and twisted every-so-often but other than that the wound was left to fester.
He curled himself up, as if the less space he took up the less there would be of him to hurt. But it didn't get rid of the dark feeling that was eating him inside.
Guilt
And he had no clue what would make it go away, but he guessed he'd just have to wait it out. Until March was over he would be like this. Because although he didn't know the exact date he knew she died in March. He did get the news on the 19th though, so it had to be before then.
He should have never left them alone. Not with Kizamir, not at all, but not with him. Hindsight's 20/20.
There was nothing he could do about it. But if I could... If he could he would have done everything different.
But that's the thing with the past. You can't change it.
