Discovering the World

[Achlys Adonia Argyris]

Adonia wandered through the twilight-lit gardens in awe, a scroll of paper and some colored pencils in a small bag. The rocky island she came from had not had much in the way of flora. The most she had ever found was maybe some moss and some grasses struggling for life in the harsh environment. Here, the blooms were so numerous there were too many to count!
She wandered along the paths stopping every so often to kneel and smell a bloom wondering vaguely what is was called. Every so often she would stop to sketch some. She continued to follow the path until she came to a circular clearing. The clearing was surrounded by cherry trees in full bloom and in the center was a large fountain with a pool filled with water lilies.
Sitting by the side of the pool, she gently touched one of the lilies. She had never seen a floating flower before. "I wonder what your name is" she murmured. She pulled the paper out of her bag once more and began to sketch.

Cedric had decided to take some time for himself, walking on the gardens. The stress of some students because of the Tournament was almost touchable. And that kinda bothered him, since in a year he would be just like them.

Damn you, knowledge thrist.

He took out one flower, a lobelia and smiled at it. Delicate yet strong looking. He kept walking with the flower in his hands, smiling and reached a small clearing with a fountain. The sun reflected on the water and Cedric noticed a young white haired lady with strange looking wings? Could it be a charis? Didn't look like one.

He appproached her and bowed "Good day, isn't it?" he said, gaving a gentle smile at the girl.

Adonia looked up from her sketch to see a young man with blond hair, glasses, and a lovely smile bowing to her.
"That it is" she said smiling back and setting her art tools aside. "What brings you out to the gardens at this hour master Cedric?"

"Master?" Cedric gasped and laughed lightly. "Please, Miss Adonia, I'm not your master... And I'm just enjoying the day. It's bright and the gardens seem to be the perfect place to relax a little bit." he explained to her, sitting on the boarder of the fountain, looking at the flowers "I guess these are lotus."

Adonia turned mildly pink and giggled. "My apologies, I hadn't meant it that way," she said looking up at him and grinning.
"Oh is that what they're called?" she asked smiling widely and leaning over to touch the pink and blue blooms floating on the surface. "What a lovely name" she said smiling. "I wonder where they come from."

"No worries, Miss Adonia." he said, with a small smile as he watched the lotus flowers, floating over the water.
"Yes, I think they are indian. From the hinduism religion... I don't quite understand why but that's all I know." he said, scratching his head. Maybe he should read more about these flowers. They sure seemed interesting.

"Indian?" she said turning back to look at him, cocking her head to the side with a puzzled expression. "Religion? I do not know these words," she said thinking hard as if thinking perhaps she had merely forgotten and could summon their meaning if she concentrated. "What are they?"

Cedric blinked his eyes and blushed slightly. He forgot that many people here didn't know the things he did know. "Well, India is a country in Asia. An a Religion is when you believe in something greater then mankind." he tried to explain, biting his tongue at the word he used, mankind.

"A country..." Adonia mused. "What do they look like there" she asked, ever curious. Having lived alone with minimal contact with other creatures her entire life , she was always curious about the world.
"Greater than mankind... Oh! You must mean greater than oneself? Something of greater significance than anything else in life?" she said thinking hard over this issue... She'd often wondered if there was more to life, but had never truly understood religion or beliefs.

"I... I don't know" he scratched his head with a small chuckle "I've never been to India. I've heard is quite an exotic place to be." he said with a smile, nodding.

"Yes, that's what I meant. Something greater than oneself that created us and the world." he explained, happy that she had understood his explaination.

She giggled. "That's quite all right.... Can you tell me about where you come from; what you believe?" she asked wondering if she was perhaps asking something too personal.

Jack had come out today and this time it wasn't with the sole purpose of causing trouble or making mischief. No. Today he would relax, as always when he was alone, he didn't have anything better to do. When he had arrived there was no one in the clearing and seeing that there was nobody he decided it was the perfect spot for a little nap. The sunlight had filtered through the thin cherry blossom, causing a pink tint around the tree's and a warm cradle in the branches. The pirate had climbed into the boughs and settled himself, one leg hanging over the branch he was laid on, then other resting against the main trunk of the tree. Now (unaware of the others in the clearing) he was snoring lightly, subconsciously moving his hands and muttering slurred words in irish.

Adonia's ears perked up at sounds of light snoring and strange, slurred speech. "Do you hear that?" she asked looking around for the source of the sounds and spied a familiar rough-looking boot hanging from one of the trees. "Jack?" she called lightly hoping not to surprise him. "Is that you?" she continued, standing and walking underneath the branch in hopes of seeing more clearly.

Cedric was about to answer but like many times before something disturbed him. Was that a snore?

He blinked his eyes to Adonia and hearing her question, made him sure that was a snore. He followed her look to a boot hanging on a cherry tree and remembered the pirate "I'm sure it must be him..." he walked over to the tree and touched the boot gently. "Mister Jack." he called out.

The words wouldn't have broke Jacks dreamland but the slight nudging of his shoe made him kick out, out of reflex, lose his balance and fall from the tree. He met the ground hard and he scrambled to his feet, picking up a stick in he process and waving it at the Victorian man. "Aye I caught yer in the act yer swanky bugger" he laughed before crouching, readying himself to launch at the other man, eyes glinting wickedly and a crooked, toothy smiled etched on his face.

Adonia squealed and toppled backwards, bits of her water dress flying about as she lost concentration for a moment; the pirate falling from his perch, narrowly missing her on the way down and brandishing a stick at Cedric. "Wait! Stop!" she yelled rushing forward to block the pirate's path, tripping as she did so.

((P.S. her "leotard" is made of scales, and the outer see-through dress is literally made of water. The water part sometimes loses its shape and form or begins to fall apart if she is overly startled... Thus the bits of water falling around))

Cedric's eyes opened wide as Jack stood up, wagging a stick. He placed his hands in front of his chest, shaking them a bit, showing he meant no harm "Mister Jack, wake up, you are still sleeping." he said, with a small sweat drop on his forehead.

"Boo!" he yelled gleefully and launched himself at the Victorian, dropping the stick and hitting him square on in the chest, knocking them both to the ground. Jack sat on Cedrics chest triumphantly and playfully took of his glasses and placed them on the bridge of his own nose. "Howd'ya see through these things matey" he asked squinted through the glass, being able to see things only in a blur. "Fecking hell...yer eyes must be bad aye" he prodded the mans chest before taking the glasses from his face and twiddling them about between his fingers, squeezing the lens a little but it seemed enough pressure to cause a very small crack in the glass. "Oops" he mummured, a wicked smile on his face.

As Jack launched himself onto him, Cedric gasped and tried to stop him. But Jack seemed determinated and when he sat on him, he struggle to get away. But his glasses were taken and he couldn't see a good damn thing. "Please, give them back..." he begged, touching the air, seeing a blurry Jack.

But when he heard a crack, he gasped again and shivered "M-my glasses! What have you done to my glasses?!" he asked, trying not to be angry as he struggled to get off under Jack.

Normally, Adonia was a very even-tempered young lady. However, make no mistake, this even-tempered persona was easily shattered by any form of injustice.... and this was definitely a case of just that.
Adonia stalked up to Jack (who's back was turned to her) in high dungeon and swiped the glasses from his hands, firmly planting her foot against his back, and sending him toppling forward off Cedric.
"Just who do you think you are?" She said, her normally purple eyes taking on a slight reddish hue. "Cedric has never provoked you or given you any reason to treat him this way, and you treat him like dirt!"

((Oh Geez Adonia..... Way to endear yourself to people.... Luckily she is still containing her "righteous indignation." She definitely has a bit of a temper if provoked XD))

Jack was gonna use a little magic to repair the tiny crack in the lens before the glasses were whipped from his hand and a firmly planted foot in the small of his back sent him toppling off Cedric.
"Just who do you think you are? Cedric never provoked you or given you any reason to treat him this way, and you treat him like dirt!"
Jack held the side of his head lopsidely and looked sceptically at the siren. "I was onee messin'" he grumbled, sitting in his place and fiddling with the dirt, mulling over the injustice of it all. "Like I'd really hurt the bugger...and I was gonna fix that lil' chip right there, but I'll leave it with you now shall I?" He got up sharply, scratching his neck as he walked back over to his tree. "Yer can get up no, you've got me in trouble" he muttered to the victorian like they had been fighting brothers and Jack was the only one who got punished. "Or are yer gonna lie there all day, yer great pansy" He scrambled back up the tree to check for his stuff.

As soon as Jack was kicked out of him, Cedric quickly stood up and adjusting his clothing, taking out the dust out of his sleeves, coat and hair and finally his gloves. He was feeling slightly irritated by Jack and that little crack on his glasses.

He walked to the tree and started talking, since he had no glasses "Well, I don't think that was the proper way to say good morning. And I would like to have my glasses back, please." he said, an annoyed look on his face at the word pansy. "And who are you calling pansy?" he asked, still to the tree.

"Talking to tree's are we now, nancy-boy~" he laughed, as he rooted through the little nook in the tree, that he had stashed some of his stuff in when he first arrived. "Who d'ya think I was calling pansy are ya missing something up there my good sir" he added the 'good sir' part sickenly sweet, so sweet it was coated with sarcasm. "Yo here ya go, hold out yer hands....if yer can see em" he chuckeld again and was ready to drop a spare glass lens into the victorians hands.

Adonia glared at the pirate for a moment before answering. "Messing with him." she sniffed. "Messing with him might be teasing him a bit, but stealing and cracking his glasses is an entirely different matter. That's just bullying and has no place in polite conversation" she said crossing her arms.
She walked over to Cedric, gently placing the glasses in his hand, before noticing she had lost half the water in her skirt during the scuffle. It was now about half it usual length. With a sigh, she summoned the water back from the ground to its proper place in the skirt. Giving it a few experimental tugs before muttering "and he's not a 'Pansy'."

Cedric tried to see and touched the tree gently, seeing that it wasn't Jack for sure. "Why you...!" he unfed and turned his back to the tree, again talking to the air. "I can see pretty bad but my audition never fails me. You called me a pantsy!" he said annoyed with Jack's attitude and waving his hands in the air as if he was trying to catch the glasses.

As Adonia stood up for herself and defend him, he had to blush lightly in embarassement. A lady defending him... oh what else could be on. "Miss Adonia, let it be... it's not worth the shot." he mumbled and as she gave him the glasses, he put them on and sighed in relief. "Much better now."
