Treasures of the Deep

[Achlys Adonia Argyris]

Adonia was having trouble sleeping, as usual staring at the collection of items, taken from the centuries' worth of shipwrecks around her island home, which now lay on her shelves.

Finally, fed up with the boredom of lying in bed, she began to wonder if perhaps there were things hidden or lost in the depths of the lake.... No one seemed to know how deep or "populated" it was... Who was to say there wasn't anything down there, waiting to be discovered.

With that, Adonia silently crept out of bed, forming her dress around her from the bowl of water and water lilies on her desk, grabbing a small shoulder bag and creeping out of the window... again... heading for the lake.

Ash smiled as she splashed around the lake, having been up and about rather early from the lack of not being able to sleep so the lake was the next best thing. It what she got for sleeping all day. She giggled running around before splashing into the puddles.

Her ears then perked as someone came closer and closer, in a panic she rushed into the water to hide. As the form started to take shape, Ash perked seeing Adonia. She beamed moving to hide and wait till she was close enough before springing up "HI!" She nearly yelled popping up right before her.

Adonia sqeuaked in surprise from the sudden appearance of the younger siren falling backwards. "Oh goodness!" she gasped sitting up. "Miss Ashlyne! What are you doing out here this late at night?"

Ash giggled as Adonia was spooked falling back, "Sorry...I didnt mean to scare you that much" She giggled again before moving to help her up. "Oh I love to come here at night. Its so peaceful and quiet and no one disturbs the water as much as they do during the day. Why are you here?'

"Thank you" she said as Ashlyne helped her up. "Well..." Aonida began, clutching the bag slung around her. "I have trouble sleeping... well just at night anyway, and I get a bit homesick for the water, so I like to come out here a lot at night." She grinned sheepishly. "I thought it might be fun to go treasure hunting in the lake... who knows what might be hanging around down there right? I used to hunt for treasure in the .... ah... ship graveyard around my island."

Ash eyes began to get bigger and bigger and bigger as Adonia explained her reasons as to why she was out and about at such and hour. "Treasure hunting?" She repeated "Like hunting for crows, and jewels and other stuff?" She asked before beaming and garbing hold of the poor girls hand. "Lets go Lets go" She beamed nearly dragging her into the water.

Before Adonia could so much as utter a word of consent or dissent, the young siren had taken hold of her hand and was dragging her along to the water. Adonia couldn't help but laugh.
"Ok, ok" she said giggling as she was pulled into the water. "Just be careful" he cautioned. "I've never swum very far out or very deep in the lake before so who knows what's down there." she checked to be sure her treasure bag was still securely hung around her, turned to Ashlyne with a grin saying "shall we?" and dove beneath the waters.

" I will" Ash was beaming as she spoke looking to Adonia. "Lets go find treasure" She squealed before diving in after the older girl and taking off right behind her. It felt good to be in the water, to be with another Siren again. It was like being home again. As they swam deeper she perked to seeing new things in the lake that she hadnt seen before...Just how Deep was the lake anyways?

Adonia looked back to make sure the younger girl was still there. She was glad to have the company though she worried about what might happen if there turned out to be any creatures down here. The lake seemed bottomless an there wasn't a lot of light down here...
Adonia suddenly had an idea. Combining her fire and water magic, she managed to create a sort of tiny glowing sphere in her hand to shed some light around them. "Where should we look first?" she asked turning to look at Ashlyne, smiling.

Ash beamed looking this way and that, as it got darker she moved closer to Adonia keeping side by side. The faint glow caught her attention making her turn to look her way. "Ooooh pretty" She beamed before perking to something shining in the distance thanks to their light. "Oh look Look Look...It something shinny" She beamed taking off for it without a care in the world.

Adonia smiled sheepishly at Ashlyne's compliment, which quickly turned to horror as she rushed off after a distant gleam in the water. "A-Ashlyne! Wait! We need to stick together!" she called after her young friend swimming after her.

"YAY TREASURE TREASURE WE ROUND TREASURE" She squealed the whole way, rushing faster and faster to get to the item. "Come on Adonia I race ya" She squealed clearly having no mind for any potential danger that could be lurking.

Adonia raced after the younger siren calling to her" Wait! Ashlyne! We need to stay together!!" but she was losing her concentration on the orb of light, which began to fade until she could not see Ashlyne in front of her. "Ashlyne?! Where are you?!" she called out, attempting to refocus on her magic and look for the young girl through the murky water.

Ash squealed swam farther and farther ahead of Adonia, beaming as she came to the spot but...Where did the light go? More over...Where was Adonia. "Umm Adonia?" She called out looking for her and seeing nothing. "....Adonia?" She called out again looking around and choosing to swim back. "Its not funny anymore...Adonia???" She whimpered.

Finally managing to reproduce the light ball, Adonia tried to make it as large as she could while still maintaining control of it. "Ashlyne?! ASHLYNE!!" she yelled as loud as she could, but heard no reply.

She bit her lip, worrying. Where was she? She didn't want to resort to using her siren abilities, but she finally saw she had no choice... besides... there couldn't be any men close-by at this time of night... right? She summoned her water magic and the power of her siren's voice projecting her voice through the water with unnatural strength. "ASHLYNE! Can you hear me?!"

All the while she searched for any sign of the younger siren, scanning where the light shone and feeling the currents in the water.

Ash pouted unable to find Adonia in the murky depts of the lake. Just as she was about ready to cry, she perked finally hearing her "Adonia? Where are you?" She called out moving to head in the direction she figured the voice was coming from.

"Adonia..." She pouted before something took hold of her foot. She blinked looking down wondering what it was was, unable to see she began to panic. "ADONIA SOMETHING HAS ME!!! ADONIA!!!" She freaked.

"Ashlyne?" Adonia swerved around towards the sound of the voice. Inwardly cursing herself for keeping a closer watch on the girl, she sped off in the direction of her shouts, even using her wings to help propel her.

"ADONIAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~!!!!" Ash voice carried as she screamed, scared out of her mind to something touching her and not able to see it. She squirmed to get away but that only made things worse, what she wasnt able to see was the fact she was tangled in kelp and the more she squirmed the more wrapped around her it got.

Adonia swam as fast as she could toward the sound of the younger girl. When she finally caught sight of her, her inital reaction was panic seeing her tangled up; but she relaxed a bit when she saw it was just some kelp.
"Ashlyne!" she called swimming up tio her and trying to stop her from squirming. "Ashlyne stop! Look! Its just some kelp! You're safe! Now just hold still so I can cut you loose!"

Ash paniced as she only got tighter and tighter, screaming her head off before perking as Adonia made her way. "ADONIA YOU'RE HERE YOU CAME TO SAVE ME!!!" She cried before perking to being hushed.

"Kelp?" She perked looking down before looking to the kelp around her, the moment she was freed however she attacked poor Adonia with a hug. "Wahhhh I was so scared it was a monster" She pouted

Adonia was rather surprised when the younger siren practically tackled her with a huge hug. She couldn't help but smile as she patted her head and gently returned the hug. "Well, its ok now. There's no monster, and you're safe. We can keep looking for treasure if you like..... just stay close to me this time?" she said with a knowing grin.

Ash nodded as she sniffled looking to Adonia before moving to cling, locking hip to hip with the girl. No way she was going to go running off now. "I saw something..." She sniffled "Shinny here and I wanted to know what it was" She pouted looking up at Adonia.

Adonia stifled a giggle as Ashlyne clung to her side pouting up at her. "Well then let's take a look and see what it was" she said gently, creating a new light ball in her hand.

Ash nodded moving to cuddle close to Adonia keeping her close. As they swam closer to where they once were, there with the light something shinny was in the lake. Looked like a sort of jewel of some sort. "What is it?"

Adonia gave the younger siren a squeeze and kept her close as they swam towards the shimmering light.
"I'm not sure..." she murmured distractedly inching closer trying to see the object more clearly. "It must be a gem of some sort to sine like that though."
Upon closer inspection, she saw that the shine was coming from under a stone slab and swam closer, sustaining the glowing orb with one hand while trying to pry the stone up with the other. "Here! Give me a hand Ash!" she said excitedly. "Its under this stone!"
