"Aye whats got yer knickers in a twist lass" Jack spoke up at the woman who was storming out of the doors he was leant against. He had no idea who this women was, if she was student or mentor, heck he didn't even know what race she was but he felt compelled as always to talk to people (and probably piss them off). The shirt he wore was loose cotton, tied at the waist with various belts, he wore a thinner blue jacket over that, loose-ish pants and his usual boots that came halfway up his shins. No way was he going to come to a party in them namby-pampy greek sandals! No feckin' way! He also had his normal, heavy, brown pirate coat over the lot, it ended around about the back of his knee's, the sleeves were long and baggy around the end. He had small weapons stuck in the belts at his waist since it didn't matter if he was at a party, he still had to be prepared to do his job. You could see the butt of his pistol tucked in the front belt if you looked. "So I'm tek it yer not enjoying the party?"

Alkaia glared at him. "Just so you know, I'm an Amazon, so I don't particularily get along with men," she snapped. "As for why I'm angry, that's none of your business." She walked over to a shrub and pulled her weapon from there that she stashed, since she wasn't allowed to carry it with her inside. She really needed to vent some steam.

Re: I Dare You
Tahi sighed as the Amazon stormed off, watching her shove the blonde man as she went. "And she calls me, a little girl." she muttered to herself. "She's the one acting like a child - shoving people she doesn't like."
"I'm Tahirah - but my friends call me Tahi. I'm the wind magic teacher - or actually co-wind magic teacher, with my brother Kallistrates. This is my first year as a mentor - which is why certain Amazons think I'm a little girl." She huffed, with feigned indignation. She turned to the blond man, and placed her hand on his arm. "You're okay, aren't you?" She asked, her eyes warm. "I'm not quite sure if that was brave or foolish - probably a mixture of both." She giggled. "Would you like to dance? I'm much safer - though my brother can be a little overprotective. But he's gone now so you won't have to worry until later..." She offered him her hand.
He hadn't commented on her skin color so far - which was a good sign. Her dark Egyptian skin was unheard of in Nephelae and was a dead giveaway of her human mother. But the man hadn't treated her any different for being a half blood. He must be Hera's new mentor. Zeus and Ares -who were also looking for new mentors - would have mentors with far different temperaments. Given her family's history with Zeus especially - she knew she should watch out for that new mentor...

Jack smirked oh so widely at this new information and leaned forward, hands on hips, eyes hiding smouldering devilement. "I was onee being nice but na I see I shouldn't be bothering wi' a savage little girl" Cocking his head to the side, he leant back against the wall, keeping his 'eye' on the women who had now taken to a weapon. "A delicate little thing shouldn't hold a weapon" Pulling a mocking, sympathetic face he held a hand out and furrowed his eyebrows "Nar be civil and gimme that club, it divn't suit ye"

Re: I Dare You
Eos took her hand and let her pull him back into the ballroom. She was a lot nicer than Alkaia.
"Thanks again," he said as they started to dance. She had such dark skin for a wind nymph, but Eos didn't comment. He was a half-blood too. No point in bringing it up.
"So wind magic? That's something I've never tried, but your a Nephelae right? So it must be easy for you."

Re: I Dare You
She rolled her eyes. "Just because I'm a woman, it doesn't mean that I can't fight. I could easily take you out if I wanted, and I have many years worth of experience, much more than you have," she stated, her grip tightening on her weapon. "And I was leaving anyway." She walked off toward the gardens, entering and moving to sit alone on a bench. "Why must there always be men?" she asked herself quietly.

Re: I Dare You
Tahi drew Eos onto the dance floor - happy to finally be able to dance for once without her brother looking over her shoulder. Even though she was still upset at him for avoiding her, she was glad for the respite.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, and swayed with the music, looking up in his eyes as he spoke. He sure did know how to pick topics of conversation though. She looked away from him as she replied.
"I'm very good with the theory at any rate. But.." she paused. Debating on how much to tell him, before deciding that honesty was probably the best policy. "But, as you can probably tell - my mother was human - Egyptian to be exact - and because of it, my magic's not always as reliable as it should be. Once when I was seventeen I was using a glider and wind magic to fly, and my magic gave out, and I broke several ribs" she winced at the memory. "That's why my brother teaches with me. He's a full blooded nephelae, and his powers aren't as dilute as mine."
She met his gaze again, searching for any sign of judgement. "What about you. What kind of magic have you tried, if not wind?" She looked at him more thoroughly - her green eyes locked with his own. What kind of creature was he? He didn't feel human - but she couldn't quite tell what he was...

"'Ang on I never said nuthin' about it being cos yer a women" He tutted and shook his head "Assuming ain't good fer yer health and how many years are ye talking about, I 'ave around...." Jack paused already knowing the answer but doing the thinking for dramatic effect "~Around fifty years" Noticing her leaving, he smiled and followed either intent on annoyance or getting to know her better. What was it about the opposite species that was so intriguing? "Thar must always be men, otherwise ther'd be na women and~" he made a rotating motion with his wrist and looked up to the cloudless night "~Y'nar likewise" The pirate slid onto the bench next to her, being as persistant as usual. He was just asking for it. "Just cos ye hate a group of peoples don't mean there all the same you silly amazon, I mean~" He rested his hands on the bench and looked forward, his concentration face on. "I think all the English are namby-pamby, spoilt brats that cook terribly, with bad teeth and-" he cut himself off as he got away from his point about his hatred for the english. "Buuuuut~ There not all like that, most maybe...but not all" Jack turned his head to look at the mentor fleetingly and he sighed "Aye you nar were I'm goin' wi' this right?"

Re: I Dare You
Tahi's eyes were so pretty, a shade or two lighter than Eos' own green eyes, but they sparkled with something else. He couldn't help but stare into them.
"Ha, I'm not very good with magic... Healing magic somtimes, but only on other people, and only because I inherited some skills from my father. I tried fire magic once, I thought I'd be good at that... It didn't exactly end well."
He smiled at her, partially mortified that he had brought up a bad memory for her.

Re: I Dare You
Alkaia frowned at him. "What the hell do you want from me?" she asked him. "And yes, I've definitely been around longer than you. Don't forget, I've gained immortality from winning in the Tournament." She sat there, trying to ignore the irritating man, but to no avail. "Why don't you go annoy that Siren that you're always with?" she growled, wanting to be alone.

Re: I Dare You
Tahi grinned - much more at ease. Eos was actually very easy to talk to, and the more she studied him the more she took note of his handsome features. Plus he didn't care who her mother was, or how her magic was unreliable, and had even told an embarrassing story about himself to make her feel more comfortable. What a guy. If she wasn't careful she'd fall for the guy - hard. Not that that would be a bad thing - but she didn't want to be one of those girls who fell too quickly.
"Fire magic is known for being difficult," she replied with a laugh, imagining exactly what type of trouble he'd gotten himself into. "I hope you didn't get too badly burned."
She was still a little curious as to what he was. He said that his father had some sort of healing magic. That didn't really narrow down any of her possibilities as to what he was. Most supernatural species had some form of healing magic - though not all of them were strong in it. But 'what are you' wasn't exactly a question asked in polite conversation. But she could ask about his class...
"So, what about you?" she asked playfully. "Are you actually good at what you teach or are you learning as you go like I am?"

"I want to talk, ever heard of the word" Jack retorted biting his tongue from adding a nasty remark. "So yer can get off yer feckin' cloud miss almighty, not every man wants yer pants round yer feet" He huffed and rubbed his temple, slipping a drink of whisky from the folds of his coat. "Everyone excepts yer for who'yah are so there's no need to prove yer point! If a man speaks to ya, he probably just wants to be pleasant not feckin' shag or kill ya! Ever thought yer might not be someone type!" Mini rant over, he turned his back on her and glared daggers at a rose bush, his happy mood ruined and his want for drink increasing. "An' her name's Adonia, not 'that siren' an' we're together, so why don't ya look down yer nose for her 'weakness' I can tell ye want to" This women just made him bristle, he no longer saw her as a challenge he saw her as a annoying challenge. But the pirate never gave up on a challenge, his reputation showed that much. "So why divn't I leave ye be with yer pride and bad memories, ye miserable old bint!" He snarled and refused to look at her while he was in this state, knowing that if he did his only moral code of 'never harm a women' would go flying out the window.

Re: I Dare You
Eos chuckled as Tahi told him that fire magic was difficult.
"No I was fine... I burned my hands, but it didn't leave a scar." He grinned when she asked him about spear work.
"I'm very good with what I teach, I've been fighting since I was seven. It's just the teaching it part that's hard. I'm not really the best with handling teenagers." He admitted.

Re: I Dare You
"You're doing fine with me." Tahi said, fixing him with her best mischievous grin. "I won't turn 20 until Feburary," she admitted sheepishly. "Though I don't think this would be very appropriate for your male students. But - a handsome guy like you - the girls will be hanging on your every word." She paused. "Except maybe the amazons," she said, grinning. Part of her was hoping to shock him, the other part just wanted to distract him.
He'd been fighting since he was seven? The poor man. He probably didn't want to talk about his childhood then.
Again she realized just how lucky she'd been. If Kal hadn't found her when he did - she'd have a similar story. Without him, at the age of seven she'd have ether learned to fight (which was highly unlikely), or she'd be dead - killed by a father who realized that his daughter wasn't actually his daughter.

Eos' cheeks turned a little pink when Tahi called him handsome, he wasn't used to that. He faultered, not knowing what to say.
"Thanks, you're rather pretty yourself."

Re: I Dare You
Tahi blushed slightly, the color barely visible in her dark skin. "The power of a good fashion sense, I assure you. I'm nothing compared to some of the charites." She paused, and moved in a little closer in spite of her good intentions. "But thank you." She said in a warm, quiet voice.
Abruptly the music stopped. Tahi looked at the band. "Oh. The song's over." She said, un-twining her arms from around his neck. Impulsively, she stood up on her tip-toes and kissed him on the cheek, before leaving his arms. "Thanks for the dance, Eos," she said - turning away. "I'll see you around." She chuckled. "Try not to annoy any gorgons or amazons in the meantime, okay, and give my regards to Hera." And with that she strode away from him, off to find some of her other friends, who she needed to catch up with.
((code for it's Angela's dinnertime - and I've got a bunch of essays due tomorrow (never take a class with online submissions - they can have homework due on weekends!) I probably won't be back on until at least tomorrow~))

Re: I Dare You
Eos watched Tahi leave, and went back to his corner. The girl had poked his heart and he didn't like the feeling. He liked it better when he was cold and numbe and people didn't get anywhere close to his heart.
He rubbed his cheek, which felt abnormally warm. He tried to think of the last person that had kissed him. Jolyn, right before she...
He closed his eyes tight and leaned against the wall. No he did not like it when people touched his heart.
And what did she mean by 'regards to Hera'? He stayed in his corner and tried to figure out his own thoughts.
((sorry, I really HATE essays, but I have no homework this weekend C:))

Re: I Dare You
Adonia glided through the doors of the ballroom as quietly as possible, her dress making little whispering noises as is brushed the floor. She had survived the prayers and ceremony, though she'd had to grit her teeth to get through her standard prayer to Hera.
She was a little nervous, recalling her first encounter with a ball, but she had heard (to her delight) Tahi would be here, and she hoped to bump into Calla.... and then there was Jack.. He'd said he would try to come too.
Thus, armed with her new gown, jewelry, and dyed wings, she smiled and began her descent into the large room.

Alkaia glanced at Jack from the corner of her eye. "Then why don't you go find her and spend time with her? I'm sure she's wondering where her beloved is. And don't assume you know why I act the way I do. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm taking my weapon back to my room and going back to that damned party that I'm being forced to go chaperone." With that said, she stood and walked briskly to the Mentor's quarters, going up into her room and setting it down on her bed. She sighed before walking to the window, leaning against the sill and looking up and outside.

Re: I Dare You
A weight was lifted from his shoulders. Thank gods the annoying women had gone. Couldn't do with em' at all, thought he would be able to find a civil one but nuh uh. Standing and stretching his back out he went back indoors, his happy mood gradually returning but not as fast as he would have liked. He slipped into the ballroom, his boots padding quietly across to a nearby table and he sat down, alcohol in hand and hung his head between his knee's, enjoying the feeling of boozy blood rushing to his head. Unsheathing all the weapons he had stashed onto the table, he took another swig of whisky...he prefered rum but...all the rum was gone.
