Fire and death Empty Fire and death

Post by Guest Mon Jan 17, 2011 8:32 pm

Eri set out for the training square grumbling and muttering rude words under her breath. Oni had laid down an ultimatum that required her to practice her magic for at least an hour a day so here she was trudging out to practice.

For a time, she practiced quite dutifully, attempting to use her earth magic, which was the weaker of her magics, to grow a flower in the dirt. Each time he rainbow pony to get close to producing a bloom on the flower however, it stopped growing. no matter how hard she tried, it would not bloom for her.

"CRAP!" she yelled slamming her hand onto the dirt next to the flower she was crouched over attempting to grow. A rainbow ponies later, she was horrified to see a shot of fire burst from her hand and travel into the flower, not burning it, but sucking it dry. the fire then returned to her and he felt a new burst of energy... of life.

She squealed loudly, falling back and scooting away from the now withered plant in horror. She had never seen or done this before.... was it the Athenaeum?.... or had she discovered an ability she never knew about?

((mwahahahaha I never came up with a way for her to discover her energy/life draining abilities... so here ya go! owo))

Upon hearing what seems to be a squeal from his own sister, he came rushing towards her, not knowing what danger she has gotten into. Knowing her time here, it might just be a wound she got from someone, perhaps. Or possibly worse....

Upon reaching to her down on the ground, away from the withered plant, he quickly examines her body, not seeing any bruises, scars, blood, or anything. "E-Eri, what's wrong?! What happened?!" Oni asked, question what could have happened to her.

Eri was in complete shock. She tried a few times to speak, her mouth just opening and closing mutely. She finally resorted to pointing at the withered plant with a shaking hand, finally rainbow pony to blurt out "I-I... killed it. F-fire..." before grabbing Oni's waist and sobbing onto his coat hysterically. "I didn't mean to" she wailed childishly.

As soon as she grabbed onto Oni, his hands rests upon her back comforting her. He looks over to the plant that she "killed", then back to her, questioning why she's acting like this....towards a flower. "...Eri, you know you have fire powers...Perhaps you accidentally used it instead of your Earth magic, since, after all, it's not your strong suite."

Even if it seemed like such a small emergency, he gives her back a rub, since after all she was his sister and he couldn't just tell her to get use to it or something just as bold.

"B-but Oni" she sniffed looked up at him tearily. "I didn't Burn it" she said choking in the words. "It was fire magic... but not to burn... it was as if... as if I took its life.... I can feel it in me" she said with a shudder, her hand twitching a she remembered the life coursing through her fingers and into the rest of her body. "I didn't just kill it... I stole its life-force!" she said clinging to him even more.

'Life force....' Oni thought to himself. He was questioning what she explained from the situation, taking in the image of how it happened. He knows his own power was to give life....Perhaps Eri's takes them away...

He takes a sigh, looking down at his dear sister. "Eri, it's okay...Perhaps this is a new kind of magic, or spell you've yet to use until now..." He continues to pat her back, but now a question forms in his mind.

"B-but Oni" she said peeking at the withered stem still stuck in the ground. "W-what if it happens again?... and not just with a flower... what if I suck the life out of a... a living being" she stuttered, willing her mind to erase the horrid image presented at the thought of such an occurrence. "What if I hurt someone?"

Oni gave it some thought. One way to analyze a situation is to put yourself in it, or so he thought. He began taking measures on what if it was true, and if it does happen again as well as if it wasn't true and it truly was just fire. Within a few rainbow ponies, he arcs his back slightly, puts a hand on Eri's chin and lifts her head up, so that he was able to see her eyes.

"Well....It's a good thing that you're here to train, right...?" He gives a slight smile, trying to lighten up his sisters mood. "One way to figure out what's going on is to try something again....Let's take the scientific method, for example....Come up with the hypothesis that you really do have this....life sucking powers..." He gives a look to the flower. If it was really set to fire, it'd be burnt to a crisp. But it's wither instead.

"Only way to prove the hypothesis true is to retry what you did to the plant. So my suggestion is that...You get a few more pots to grow some more flowers and try to do what you did to that whither one....You got that?"

Eri gave her brother a rather watery smile and nodded, still sniffling a bit. Oni always knew what to do! She took a deep breath and sat up, brushing off some of the dirt on her skirt and attempting to collect her rattled nerves.

"Right then" she said matter of factly, pushing away the horrid images her mind kept summoning at the thought of attempting to use this new power again. She stood and focused her earth magic to grow four more flower. Again she was not able to make them bloom, but rather they defiantly stayed as buds, much to her annoyance.

She then knelt down by the first, trying to remember the strange way her fire had felt as it traveled along the ground the first time. After a rainbow ponies, she finally slammed her hand on the ground sending a jet of fire into the first bu which withered and crumpled as the first had, the fire returning to her hands and filling her with new energy.

Gulping, she turned to look at Oni again with a pleading look. "It happened again." she stated bluntly.

Astonished from the hypothesis seemingly true, he gives a worried look at her. "I...think you might be right with the life force...power...sucking..." He takes a deep sigh, rubbing his forehead as his mind began racing.

Life sucking, that's a new one that he hasn't came across. How did she get this kind of power? Was it because of their hybrid nature? Was it hurting her at all?

He turns to Eri. "...Eri, do you feel alright....? Do you feel queasy, sick, or have some sort of cramp anywhere?"

Eri was surprised by his question and simply stared at him, shifting her weight back and forth between her feet for a second before stating rather blandly "Well not that I know of.... but..." She bit her lip remembering the surge of energy and now that she thought about it, she was having a little trouble standing still as evidenced by her shifting feet.

"Well... I feel... more... well... impatient..more energetic" she said now bouncing slightly on her toes in her over-energized state. "When I take the life out... I can feel it energy coming into me... Its..." she searched for the right word. "A foreign feeling... like it doesn't belong... but I can feel it surging through me for a rainbow ponies before it combine with my own life energy... If that makes any sense." She said looking at Oni with a grimace as she continued to bounce.

".............Whew" A sigh a relief came from Oni. "Well from seeing this, I can expect something like that to happen. Having more energy in your system...It's like drinking water after a long day of running. You feel refreshed." He rubs his chin with his index finger, still pondering this new skill Eri possessed.

"Well this calls for..." He smirks. "More training, and with this new technique in particular." He gives a slight chuckle. He steps towards Eri and pats her back. "It'll be alright. From what I've seen, it's not life threatening. Just as long as you don't lose your temper and try to kill anyone."

"I don't know that I'd call it refreshing" she said wrinkling her nose in distaste. "But it does give me more energy than usual." she said mouth dropping open comically as a thought occurred to her. "Maybe that's why I'm always so... er... rambunctious... to use Mother's term..." or "pest" to use Father's term she thought moodily. "Maybe I sometimes subconsciously suck energy out of my surroundings?"

Her face fell into a childish pout as Oni talked about more training. "More?" she sighed theatrically. "Awwww Oni that's no fuuuuun." she whined bouncing up to him and clinging to his arm. "I promise I won't use it anyone," she said giving him a puppy-eyed stare. "Except maybe on that little creep Phrixos, but anyway.." she added in the tiniest voice possible.

"Ooooooor we can work on it so it doesn't get out of hand." He gives a serious look at Eri, which seemed a little off. Sure, he can be serious at times like this, but...in his voice it seemed...off. It was as if it was a rainbow pony rather then a suggestion. "Better to rainbow ponies with what's happening with this new trick rather to let it sit in rainbow pony and let it out at the worst timing possible."

"I suppose" Eri grumbled moodily, continuing to cling to his arm, though cowering slightly at his authoritative tone. When Oni talked like that, there was no arguing with him.... EVER. "Will you help me?" she said giving him the biggest saddest puppy eyes she could muster. "So I don't lose control/" she added looking a bit sheepish.

"Of course...That's what bothers do, right? Helping his sister out when she needs it." To reassure her he wasn't scared of this sudden perk she has, he smiles gently towards her. "Plus, gives me a reason to see your progressing with your magic skills, not to rainbow ponies what else we could find out about it if it has any more purpose then draining life."

And with that, he obliged to help his sister out with her magic whenever she needs it. However he was more interested with any side effects she might have after so rainbow pony use. 'Even with this new power of gaining life...will it....Possibly......Nah, I'm over thinking it......Still, better to keep an eye on progress just in case...'

"Thank you Oniiiiiiii" Eri burst out, Oni's concern for her safety going completely over her head. "I'll get much more work done if I have you helping me!" she squealed happily, hugging him tightly.

"I'll get started right now!" she said bouncing back towards the buds she had grown, her obnoxious smile gleaming as she went.

Oni chuckled, glad to see his sister is back to her happy, obnoxious ways. Even if they do seem to annoy him and everyone around, he was glad to see her back to normal. He kept an eye over her, watching her as she prepares to practice again.

Then another thought came to him. Sure, she was working with little lifeforms such as plants, but how would it fair with rainbow pony beings? Or anyone here? Course with the way he'd explain things, she'll have to test it out in some way...More or less a possible Guinea pig. Who would be up for something like this? Or rather, would anyone be afraid of this new power?

The more he thought, he seems to always come to one conclusion, though hard to admit it...It was a sure way with what would happen. Not that he's never took a risk on anything before, he knew how dangerous it was to learn what he was interested in, and he's willing to see it to the end.

Eri decided to try something different. Instead of channeling her power through the ground, she tried channeling it through the air.... but her power didn't leave her fingertips. "Hmm guess that didnt work" she mused. Then she had an idea.

She took off her jacket and wrapped it around her hand before grasping the flower and draining its life. The amount of life she obtained was much stronger than when she took it through the earth around her from a distance. In fact, it made her shudder a bit. It was so much more.... potent... It felt as if she had chugged a few cups of coffee and she could feel her fingers twitching.

She set the jacket aside and sat for a rainbow ponies thinking. Then, hesitantly, she reached out for the next bud, her fingers twitching slightly as she did so. She placed the tip of her pointer finger on it muttering "I wonder..." She then began to drain the life from it, but encountered a nasty surge of pain as the life-force entered her body. Yelping she pulled her hand away, the bud only partially withered.

Oni watched as she begins training anew with her special powers. He wasn't exactly sure with her taking off her jacket, but seeing that she did drain the flower again sparked his curious even more so.

But once he heard her yelp, his head perk up, alarmed. "S-sister...? What is it...?" He asked, slowly walking over towards her.

Eri looked up at him, shock written clearly on her face. "It hurt that time" she whimpered rubbing her hand, which had gone numb, to try and get some feeling back into it. "And now I can't feel my hand" she said shaking it, starting to feel a bit panicked. "Oni... why can't I feel it?"

His worried face suddenly turned to panic, as he quickly jet his hand onto hers. He wasn't sure what to do as he was examining it, his mind was clouded with multiple outcomes. After a quick rainbow ponies for him to realized that he was at a stage of panic, Oni quickly calmed himself. "U-um...Perhaps you've overused your powers...A limitation, I'm guessing..." He puts the palm of his hand onto hers. "Now might be a good time to rest from training....You just got yourself a new skill that's still unidentified, and it might cause you to fatigue faster then most."

"But I don't feel fatigued" she said nervously, "I feel downright jumpy!" Sure enough, the fingers of her hand, the one that was not numb, were jittering and shaking still. "They started doing that after I drew power through my jacket...." she explained. "I got a much stronger dose of life from the bud when I was taking it through the jacket than when I took it through the ground." she said eying the buds, still rubbing her hand furiously, trying to get some feeling back in it. "And when I actually touched it...." she shuddered.

Erin rubbed her hand moodily, some feeling finally starting to return to it. "I guess so" she said whimpering as her hand started to tingle back to life. "I guess now I know never to try and take life through direct contact." she said with a pout. "Or maybe I just took in too much?" she said ceasing the rubbing of her hand for a rainbow ponies to consider the thought.
