Les Miserables

[Eos]

Eos walked past the open door of the band room while searching for his glove. He could have sworn he lost it in the dungeon or the infirmary, or somewhere in between. But he had already checked the infirmary at least ten times, and didn't feel like venturing into the dungeon feeling as sore as he did. (After a fight with Jack.) Besides, he needed to save his energy if Kal was going to be comeing back to the Athenaeum anytime soon, and teaching his spear and ax class. He wasn't exactly having an easy time making friends at here.

As he passed the door he spotted a beautiful mahogany piano... right in front of a window. The blood from Apollo screamed at the sight. The wood was going to fade and become weak, the sound would turn sour. As much as he didn't want to care, he had to move it. He sighed at the ridiculous quirks in his personality that seemed ingerited... how the hell did he inherit a personality from his father who had never been around?

But he walked into the room, looking to see if there was anyone around, and pushed the piano to the less clutered side of the room, just enough so that the sunlight wouldn't be able to destroy the wood, but under a bright artifitial light, so it was easier to read sheet music if you placed it on the built-in stand. As he was about to leave the piano to it's own devices his hand brushed against one or two of the ivory keys. His father's side of him flamed again and the random sound of disonance made his ears hurt. He had to play something to get that sound out of his head. He hadn't played in years though....

He sat and played a 'C' scale. Seeing if his fingers could still remember how to move against the smooth cold keys, before he could think about what song to play he started playing something that sounded like a melody. A quick switch to a minor not that big a jump, mostly the same keys as a C major, but it gave it a more meloncholy tune.

After a few seconds he found it was 'Castle on a Cloud' from the musical Les Miserables. One of her favorite musicals. She liked the song 'On my Own' the most, but Castle on a Cloud had been a close second. Besides, on my own would be far too ironic at the moment.

Cosette was drawn to the band room by a the sound of a piano playing her song. Literally. It was a song from the famous French musical... she couldn't remember the name of the thing. But the song playing was sung by a character named Cosette.

She stood in the open door of the room, staring at the back of whoever was playing the song. For a second she thought it was Apollo, her heart quickened. But then she realized that no it couldn't have been. He just had similar hair.

Seti walked over to him and stood by the end of the bench, staring at the black and white keys. Confounded by how anyone could play such an instrument. And amazed when she looked up and realized his eyes were closed. He had a nice... face. For some reason that reminded her of Apollo too. It deffinetly wasn't though. His hair in front was different, he had weird bangs, and had a small scar over his right eye. She wondered idly how he got it, still listening to the music continue in a meloncholy way. It was in a minor scale she was sure, just not which. Minor scales always sounded a little strange. The song finished on a slow sad note.

Eos opened his eyes when he was done, happy he could still play. Who was he if he wasn't musical, probably not the son of the god of music.

He flinched when he realized he had an audiance. Then mentally kicked himself when he saw it was a little girl.

Cosette blinked a few times, surprised by the sheer green of his eyes.

"Oh sorry! I didn't mean to startle you," she said.

"No problem," he said, just a tad embarassed anyone had heard that.

"I'll get out of your way then..." he said, thinking she wanted to use the piano.

"Oh no, no. I was listening to you play. My name is Cosette," she said and smiled at the coinsedence.

"Ha, like the... you recognized the song?" Equally embarassed. He felt like he had been unententionally mocking the girl.

She nodded in reply.

Adonia walked down the hallways towards the music room, her violin cradled in her hands. A she approached the room, she heard a lovely, but rather sad sounding, little tune coming from inside. As she peeked in she saw that it was Eos playing and there was a small girl behind him, watching him play.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised... he is son of Apollo after all, she thought to herself a she listened. She sat there unsure of what to do. She didn't want to have another "incident."

She shuddered at the thought... the mentor would probably never want to see her again, and Jack might actually kill either Eos or her if he found them around each other again.

She peered around the door frame once more after the music had stopped to see if he was going to play again. Turning to hide once again as she saw his back was no longer turned to her.

[Eos]

"What are you going to play next?" Seti asked happily.

"I wasn't planning on playing anything actually," he told her sheepishly.

"Oh," she said with a sigh, her face looking dejected. Seti really loved music and it seemed that even though this man was good with it, he didn't love it. She stared at him somemore, he was deffinetly older.. but she couldn't figure him out. Maybe a fifth year...

"I'm taking requests," he told her just to get that sad look off her face.

She perked up at the prospect of someone playing a song for her. "Uhm.. well this might sound nerdy, but can you play the Phantom of the Opera song? Or I dreamed a dream from Les Mis? Heh, Susan Boyle really made that one famous," she said and chuckled.

"Well the Phantom of the Opera sounds better on the organ, but I'll play I Dreamed a Dream for you," he said. "Susan Boyle? You must be from the present.. or well the... 21st centrury at least," he said as he played.

Adonia could hear them talking, and then another song, this one even more beautiful than the first had been. She had to hold her hand over her mouth to remind herself not to hum along with the sad melody.

Despite her best efforts, the simple song brought tears to her eyes, and she sat beside the door just listening quietly and trying to keep her tears from falling on her violin.

"Anything else?" He asked after he finished the song. Now that he was playing again he didn't want to stop. Like a horrible musical drug. Everything was so pretty. But playing so suddenly? He would probably get blisters, like the first time he discovered the insturment, he played all night... that first time, trying to get everything perfect.

"Hmm," Seti thought happily. "I guess 'On my Own' I always liked that one too," she told him, sticking to the songs she thought he knew, the ones form the musical."

Adonia sniffled and wiped her eyes, grateful that the song had finally ended... only to be confronted by one that put the previous two to shame. This song was heartbreaking. She wasn't sure why.... She didn't know the words and had never heard the tune before, but she could tell the song was one of pain and loneliness.

Her lips tightly pressed together so she would not forget to stay silent, and her eyes tearing once more; she risked another look around the corner watching Eos's hands move along the keys, wishing she knew more about the large instrument. She had managed to teal into a music store a few times back home to experiment with the instrument, but had never mastered it the way he had mastered her violin.

Seyi smiled... and then frowned. You could only play songs like this the way the blond hair guy was playing it, if you felt the emotions a certain way. If music was an outlet for the things you needed to get out. He was sad... sad enough to play 'On my Own' in a way that made her want to cry.

He 'smiled' up at her, waiting for the next song. Just happy he had made his way through the last one, and wanting something to get it out of his head, or it would haunt his nightmares tonight.

"Do you know... Gay or European?"

"I can try," he said. Unsure if he could do that. He had heard the song, but hadn't exactly commited it to memory, much less convert it to something he could play on a piano. But he could try. I AM who I am, he thought to himself.

Adonia nearly laughed outright at the next song. The funny little upbeat tune instantly dispelled her gloom and she found herself tapping the side of her violin idly in time to the beat as he played.

It couldn't compare to the beauty of the previous song, but Adonia was still relieved that she was not as tempted to sing along anymore. She looked at the violin in her hands with a smile. At least she could play without causing death. Looking around the corner she considered joining the two in their musical escapade.... if only to relieve her musical "itch"....

Cosette started laughing int he middle of the song. She just had to sing the words, she couldn't leave then unspoken! Eos didn't mind he smiled along as the girl sang out the words that made him chuckle. He stumbled over a stanza or two, but Seti easily wove throught the song so it still made sense. They messed up together and laughed together.

Adonia's ears perked up at the sound of the girl's voice. It was rather pretty and she wove through the song with ease. Though she didn't understand the meaning of the words, she found herself giggling along with them, her fingers picking out the melody on the strings of the violin, though the hand holding the bow remained limp as she sat and listened.

They ended up laughing so hard Seti couldn't sing. And Eos was hunched over the piano. Seti wiped a way a tear.

"So.. I guess I should probably know your name?" she asked.

"Eos," he said simply, wanting to get back to his drug.

"Like.. the Greek goddess of the dawn?" she asked, pretty sure that Eos was a girl's name.

"Uhm... well my name is Hesperos, but ya' know a lot of people can't say that and," he couldn't believe the kid made him blush.

"I like Hesperos better," she told him. "It means evening star, right?"

"Roughly," he admitted.

"So Hesperos... what kind of music do you like? You should choose something now," she told him. Wanting to see his personality and not the ones she was projecting on him.

"Well, I don't know..." he idly hick a few notes. And it remimded him of something... something he first heard in a disney movie with Alana....

He played the meloncholy yet upbeat tune of Heaven's Light that was the start and slowly wove in the intoxicating melody and lustful tune of Hellfire.

As soon as Eos began playing Heaven's light, Adonia couldn't help herself any longer. She placed the violin under her chin and began to play along ever so softly with the beautiful melody, throwing in bits of improvised accompaniment between the phrases of the main melody.

As the melody moved to the seductive Hellfire began, she switched to accompaniment, weaving a complex, though incredibly quiet counterpoint to Eos' piano rendition of the piece.

[Eos]

Eos' ears twitched... an ever so soft somthign was right behind the loud and agressive notes of Hellfire. He played softer, in contrast to the song itself so he could get a better listen. Violin? Something stringed, and it was rather high, so probably. Who?

Cosette didn't seem to notice anything, teh song Hesperos started to play was... kinda dark sounding. It souned familiar though....

He stopped abruptly, the music continued for a second more than he played. And he sprung up from the bench, his curiosity getting the best of him. And he walked to the door of the band room.

Cosette, rather confused, watched as he leapt up and went to the door. Seeming to look for something.

Adonia was rather puzzled when the music stopped, ending her accompaniment rather abruptly. Hearing approaching footsteps, she scrambled to her feet trying to head down the hall before whoever was coming could see her.

[Eos]

Eos got to the door in time to see a rather surprised Adonia, scrambling to her feet.

"Adonia..." he said. Nothing else. An offer to stay or to run.

Adonia stopped in her tracks, clutching her violin. She knew that voice far too well, due to recent events.

She turned slightly to peer over her shoulder at him. "H-hello sir" she said quietly, not looking him in the eye and looking extremely guilty. "I'm sorry I disturbed your playing..."

[Eos]

"You didn't" he let her know. "Your harmony was beautiful... next time you shouldn't be afraid to play so I can hear you," he said ad smiled to try and make her feel better. He wanted her to know he didn't blame her for what happened with Jack... that boyfriend of hers had a temper....

"T-thanks you sir" she stuttered, her eyes on her feet as she clutched her violin to her chest.

"S-sorry about earlier... you know.. Jack's just..." she hesitated. "I'm not making excuses for him.... but..." she peeked up at her teacher briefly. "I-I think he was hurt.... badly.... before he came to the Athenaeum.... I don't know what happened... but I think it makes him afraid he might lose me...."

She shook her head. "Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about... "

[Eos]

"No problem..." He watched her try and explain the feelings of her pirate, but he knew men like that only too well. Jack with Adonia almost reminded him of how Kiz was with Eva... Kiz was f@cking scary with Eva.

"It's alright, I know how that is. Hell I'm like that sometimes," he admitted, because Kiz got it from somewhere. "But.. I mean if he hurts you..." he tilted his head to the side in a question, lettin ghis sentance trail off. He didn't want to assume things... or insinuate things.

Adonia shook her head frantically. "No no no! He's never shown any violence towards me.... until then... He just.... I-I provoked him..." she looked at the ground again. "But he would never hurt me." she said, looking up at Eos with determination. "Not him...."

[Eos]

Eos shrugged. If that's what she said. He could easily tell, that yes, she was telling to truth. Jack had never hit her. And she believed that he wouldn't hurt her. But you never really know people until the end, do you?

"Alright... want to talk about something? You don't seem, I mean, are you ok?" she seemed rather skitish, and her eyes were red and puffy, she had been crying.
