[Kai]

Kai walked through the library reading the spines of the many books, trying to find one about any deities other than the Greek ones. It was for the temples and rituals class, which everyone had to take. It was hard finding anything in the library, it was just so big! She was trying her best to find one good book full of information. Since she had never had a formal education, she was a rather slow reader. Jack had taught her the little he knew, but he had only been in school until he ran away.

She sighed, feeling like she wasn't getting anywhere. The only reason she didn't go ask the librarian was because she had heard she was mean, and was a little afraid to. Kai had never seen a gorgon before and the thought of snakes made her skin turn cold. Kai loved animals, but liked snakes the least.

Meanwhile, Phrixos was in a rather foul mood. All week he had this funny feeling that there was someone or something watching him. But every time he looked over his shoulder, nothing was there. Just the wind. His frown deepened. That meant there was a high possibility that someone - he wasn't quite sure who - though he had a few guesses - was using wind magic to try and find out more about him.

And gods damn it - but he wasn't powerful enough to counter them. Phrixos let out an exasperated huff. It just had to be magic - didn't it. The one thing he was less gifted in... okay... maybe not at all gifted in.

Phrixos' list of suspects was narrowed when he (reluctantly) went to his first wind magic class. The mutt was there - and the entire lesson (something about using wind magic - he didn't know), she was staring at him. Then when they were released to practice, she had stood over his shoulder almost the entire damn time. She had indicated she wanted a word with him after class, but Phrixos had pretended not to have heard her and left before she could catch up.

Great. The mutt wanted to get to know him. So Phrixos had spent the rest of the week taking the most skewed routes to class that he could think of - all in the hopes of avoiding her - and it had worked for the most part - though there had been a couple close calls.

That was why Phrixos now was in a place he would normally never dare to come - the library. He figured as long as he could avoid the hateful gorgon, then he'd be alright. Most people assumed men stayed away from the library because of Slyphea's... aversion... to men - and it was true for the most part. The mutt would never think of looking for him in here.

Phrixos slunk along the rows and rows of shelves, searching for a good place to hide out when he saw orange wings, and paused in spite of himself. A fire charis. Like Mother. Like Myrina.

But neither his mother nor his twin were here at the athenaeum, he reminded himself silently, moving past the Charis heading deeper into the library - but unable to stop himself from staring as he passed.

Kai thought she found a promising book, the spine read Nordic Isles. But when she picked it up and looked through it, she found it was literally about the Nordic Isles. Like... geography, topographic maps, etc, one of those things she could rarely wrap her, admitted bird-ish, brain around.

Kai heard foot steps in the next isle and whipped around, backing up as she did so, afraid that the librarian had found her. But the figure was too small to be that of an adult and Kai followed after whoever it was happily, maybe they could help her.

Phrixos turned down another row of shelves, only to hear the soft pitter patter of feet behind him. Someone - that charis most likely - was following him.

Gods damn it - he'd had enough of being followed for one week! And although he couldn't stand up to the mutt - he could stand up to this girl. With an exasperated breath he turned around, hands on his hips waiting for the stranger to catch up to him so he could see what she wanted, and more importantly how to make her go away.

"Er.. hi," Kai said stupidly once she caught up to the boy. And he was a boy, a cute little one at that, with wavy blond hair, and gold eyes. But the way he stood was very hostile and Kai got the hint that he wanted to be alone.

"Uhm... never mind," she said and turned meekly. Kai didn't like conflict and avoided it where she could. And here she could definitely avoid it.

Phrixos sighed inwardly. He was probably going to regret this. But the girl reminded him of his sister... And he was lonely. NO. He wasn't lonely. NO. He just wanted to see why she was following him. That was it. Exactly.

He followed her - hands still on his hips. "You were following me. What do you want?" He whispered quietly, eyes narrowed - but not quite glaring, Myrina's name a litany in his mind.

"Er... sorry to bother you. I just... well... needed help finding a book," she admitted, looking at her feet and not at the boy's face. She backed up a little waiting for him to respond, but thinking he was going to either walk away of tell her to leave him alone and go find the librarian. But either way she was ready to scurry off.

Phrixos frowned. Was this girl stupid? They were in a library for... He sighed - thinking again of his sister. Okay - well - his sister wasn't the brightest person in the world either. Maybe it was a charis thing. Not that he was half charis or anything. Nope. On second thought maybe it was the effects of spending too much time with Aphrodite like all charites did.... He turned to a shelf and drew out a book, not even bothering to look at the title. "Here you go. It's a book." He surveyed her. "I know you're lady isn't the most scholarly of goddesses, but still..." He shook his head.

Kai glared at him, her face turning almost the same color as her hair. She put her hands on her hips and drew herself up to full height. Usually she was rather quiet and meek, but the boy was assuming things that she just could not let go.

"First of all, I was looking fer a certain type of book. And second, just who do you think my lady is?" she snapped at him. Because it certainly sounded like he thought she was one of Aphrodite's warriors. And if he indeed was insinuating that Kai had anything to do with that... that... woman, she might just lose control of her fire magic.

Phrixos rolled his eyes. "Well then you could've said that. You just said you were looking for a book - and with what Aphrodite teaches some of you charites I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know what a book was." Thinking of his sister and mother he paused.

"Not that there's much wrong with that... I mean books and the like are really more men's things anyways. My sister and mother are both charites, and I'm pretty sure they don't read, and they're both fine..." Phrixos added hastily, given the aggressive look in her eyes. He really hated to admit it - but the girl reminded him of his twin and his mother - both fire charites - and he didn't want to pick too much of a fight if he could help it. Besides that would probably send the librarian running - and that would get phrixos in even more trouble. He was here hiding from the mutt - and getting caught by the librarian would be a bad way of hiding...

Kai shuddered at the sound of the 'goddesses' name. Of course she knew what a book was. The boy's words got more and more ridiculous by the second. Kai had to admit she wasn't the smartest person in the world. But this was exactly why she didn't hang about other charites, well that and their love of their goddess.

She clenched her jaw in an attempt to keep herself quiet and turned around. She walked away as fast as she could, she didn't want to yell at him, or fight, but he was making it hard. Books are more of a 'men's thing'? What a load!

She couldn't help but mumble a few words Jack had taught her under her breath.

Phrix stared as she walked away.

"Tch - Women." He muttered under his breath. They were always so emotional - it was almost pathetic. But he had other women to be avoiding - so he turned in the opposite direction, looking for a better place to hide.
