Re: Tahi's Room
((Haha - I sympathize... I have to write the part where Tahi goes and gets Kal and makes Kal explain that Phrixos is her brother. Which is all going to be one post since it's dialogue between all of my characters... ANd then Tahi is going to stalk Phrix because obviously -HEY NEW BROTHER!- and probably hound Eos since he's Phrix's mentor... fun times coming and lotsa writing. But I have to make dinner first...))

Re: Tahi's Room
Eos took a break from writing and stared out his window for a second, he rubbed his eyes and yawned. He was dog tired, and he couldn't stop thinking about things he shouldn't have been thinking about. Name, Tahirah. He rubbed the bringe of his nose and shut his eyes tight. She's far too young for me, he told himself. Only 19, or was she? Hadn't she said her birthday was in February? And wasn't it February? Had he already missed it? Crap... he thought to himself. He figured it still hadn't happened, he would have noticed something, but then again he had been half-asleep for most of the week. His brain was only working today because of the long and slightly awekward nap he had in the music room with Adonia.
Well I have to do something, he decided and stood searching through the drawers of his desk. Crap... why hadn't he asked her what her favorite flower was? Flowers were easy! He sat back down with a defeated sigh, and thought things out for a second. Favorite color, teal, he could work with that. He was pretty sure teal was some sort of blue, or blue-green, or something. An idea popped into his head, he looked into his sorry exscuse for a closet. Which was full of all sorts of things, not just clothes, and was a complete mess. He found what he was looking for fairly quick and searched through the pockets of a faded pair of jeans. In the pocket was a small stone, a blue-green color, that he thought was teal. He set the stone down on his chair and went back to searching through his desk, he found the next two items in the same drawer, like a gift from God. Yes , he thought happily as he pulled out an olf leather pouch and a simple black string. The black string was a back-up for the one that hung aroun his neck, holding the small wooden cross near to his heart, in case that string broke. But seeing as how it wasn't even worn after almost 2000 year, he was sure he wouldn't be needing that backup anytime soon. he went back to his closet and sifted through all the crap in there.
"Damn it," he grumbled. Would he find what he needed in the forge? Only one way to find out, he walked quickly and quietly, staying out of sight. Until he made it into the forge. He scanned the room and a glint of silver caught his eye. There, it was a tiny string of metal. Strong enough to hold a stone in place, but solf anough for him to bend without use of the fires. He grinned proudly as he walked back to the mentor's quarters with his prize.
He took the stone and wrapped the metal around it, adding a swirl to hold the stone in the decorative cage of metal, he took the string and wrapped it under the metal, and knotted it, now that he had something to tie it around. He placed the finished necklace in the pouch and closed it tight.
Eos looked out into the hallway, making sure none of the other mentors were out there, and walked to Tahi's door. It wasn't like he was doing anything wrong he just didn't want anyone seeing him.... and didn't want Kal to kill him. For some reason he couldn't knock on her door, so instead he hung the pouch on the doorknob, and walked back to his room. Content to hide inside. How's she going to know it's from you? he asked himself and facepalmed.

Re: Tahi's Room
Tahi returned to her room with a heavier heart than she would have liked. She had just gotten back from yet another errand – supposedly on the goddess’ orders, but Tahi was beginning to doubt that was the case. Just last week she had woken up in her room to see her brother’s overprotective frown firmly in place, which was startling since the last thing she remembered was talking with Eos in the field. She must have overreached herself, she thought with an embarrassed flush, and Kal noticing that she had woken up proceeded to interrogate her – about both her foolishness in overreaching her powers and in regards to her relationship with ‘that man.’ When Tahi had sheepishly deflected the first onslaught of scolding she had stood up to him on the second – reminding her brother that she was old enough now to choose who she wanted to spend time with. They had the whole “he’s-Zeus’-so-he-must-obviously-be-evil” argument again (Kal still didn’t look convinced), and then the subject of Phrixos was brought up, and well – by the end of the night she and Kal were in a bit of a tiff.
But come the next morning he had sent her off to 19th Century America on some random errand for their lady. Then then next day he had something else she was supposed to be doing. Something similar happened the next day. And the day after that. It had been this way all week, and Tahi was beginning to suspect that her brother was simply trying to keep her away from the athenaeum. Which was fine for him, but she actually had lessons to teach!
Still, at least she would be able to do what she wanted today. A girl only has one birthday a year, she reminded herself. And even her current mood with her brother wasn’t going to stop her from enjoying it. She was going to go and spend the morning with her family here at the athenaeum, then sneak out sometime in the afternoon with Amaranth, Calla, and some of the other girls for some quality shopping time, and then in the evening it was time for a party. Then once the party had died down, Tahi would make the pilgrimage she made every year – back home – back to Egypt, where she’d reflect for a little while on all that had happened that year. It had been her tradition to do so as long as she could remember.
Looking forward to a good day ahead, Tahi approached her room and paused as she noticed something hanging on her door. A small pouch. A small grin twisted on Tahi’s face. Someone had remembered her birthday. But there wasn’t a tag attached. Tahi paused for a moment thinking of who could have given her a gift. Seeing as she considered most of the mentors surrogate family, there were a lot of possibilities. She bit her lip – but then smiled again. Whoever was trying to be sneaky had forgotten she was a master… okay… maybe above average… wind magic user. Drawing on her power she summoned up a breeze and concentrated on the present. But she got nothing. Whoever had left it hadn’t said a word while they were leaving it. Darn. Tahi hated a mystery. It was part of having the power to find out nearly anything you wanted. Not knowing things was terrible.
Maybe opening the thing would give her some clue as to who had sent it. She opened the pouch, and out into her palm fell a necklace. It was… unique. The stone was a gorgeous pale teal (her favorite color), and it was held up by an intricately wound cage of swirling silver, but it was held up, not by a delicate silver chain, or anything a professional jeweler would use, but a plain black string. It was odd – but it gave the piece character – and a distinctly homemade feel, making the piece all the more special – as if it had been made for her alone.
Tucking the piece back into its pouch Tahi entered her room, ready to prepare for the day ahead. Studying herself in the mirror she placed the necklace on. Maybe she’d have a clue as to who her mystery gift-giver was if she wore it around and watched other people’s reactions to it. Yes – that was a good plan.

Eos stood outside of Tahi's room, shuffling his feet awkwardly. He lacked the courage needed to knock. In his hand was a folded up peice of paper... he couldn't believe he had actually taken the advice of a first year and writen the note in the first place. But here he was.

Re: Tahi's Room
Tahi yawned. It had been a very late night last night. It always was when she visited Egypt. It was hard to extract herself from the memories that always came with such a visit. She had come back to her room in the early morning hours, and had barely managed so slip into her favorite silk nightgown before falling asleep.
She woke up to the rather insistent blowing of a breeze across her face. Something was up. She remembered when her brother had told her that, when she was just a little girl. 'It usually means they know something important' he had said. Drawing on her magic she listened - but could only hear a small shuffling sound.
Shuffling? What? She must still be dreaming. But the winds wouldn't let her go back to sleep. With a sleepy yawn, she drew herself out of bed, still only wearing her nightgown and went to the door. Maybe Amaranth or someone was outside. Maybe Kal had done something stupid and tried to lock her in.
Opening the door she found "Eos? Good morning..." she said trailing off. What was he doing here?

Re: Tahi's Room
Eos jumped a little as the door opened, then remembered that Tahi's specialty was strategic wind magic. She could probably hear him a mile away.
"Oh Tahi... uhm. Hi," he said awkwardly, completely ruining the plan that was supposed to make him look like less of an morron. He rubbed the back of his head absentmindedly with his right hand, the note in his left. "Well I sort of, forgot to give you this." He held out the peice of paper that simply said, 'For Tahi, Happy Birthday. --Eos'
"It was supposed to go with that," he said staring at the stone around her neck. Did that mean she liked it?

"Oh!" Tahi said, fingering the necklace absentmindedly, hoping he was looking at the necklace, and not what showed through the rather... sheer... nightgown ((This is tahi we're talking about - of course she has a frilly silky gossamer nightgown)). "Thank you." She cupped the necklace in her hand. "It's so unique. I love it." She paused, stretching - feeling more awake by the second.
"I was wondering who had sent it. You weren't on my list because you were new and didn't know about my birthday." She paused, fixing him with a curious stare. "How did you know it was my birthday?" she asked.

His face got a little warm, and he looked at the floor, but smiled. He was happy she liked it. It was a quick idea... actually it was the only thing he could think of.
"Oh well.. you told me. I didn't know what day it was, you just said you would be twenty in February. At the uh, beginning of the year," he told her. When they were dancing at Eisodos, and she thought he was the mentor for Hera.

"Oh, right." she said, running her fingers through her hair, which was loose and tousled from sleep.
"I had forgotten.... A lot's happened since then..." Understatement of the year. But it would have to do for now.
"Well - thank you again" She motioned inside. "Do you want to come in? I had a bit of a late night last night, so I just woke up, and I'm making tea." She may not have been as obsessed with the stuff as Morpheus was, but she did enjoy exotic and unique things, and had a stash of fun teas from all corners of the world.

"Sure, thank you,"' he said with a small smile. Grabbing at all the courage he had, the courage that never left him when he was on a battle feild, but ran when he saw the little wind nymph.
He followed her into her room and his stomach twisted, whenever he talked to her he usually ended up alone with her, and twice he ended up in her room. Weird....
"So how is everything with your brothers? Have you talked to Phrix?" he asked truly curious as to how she was doing. As he asked he thought about how he could help the situation with Phrixos. Well, first he could get him the hell away from all things Zeus, but then remmebered that that included himself. And he felt a little guilty for even talking to Tahirah.

Re: Tahi's Room
Tahi led him into the foyer, through the main room and into the small kitchen area, where she lit a small gas burner with a match, and placed the kettle on. The technology had fascinated her at first, and she was a bit clumsy using it her first few times, but now she was an old pro at it.
Biting her lip Tahi thought about her brothers. "Kal's getting on my nerves. I'm beginning to think he's been making up assignments just to keep me away from the Athenaeum and Phrixos. I haven't been here more than a few minutes until yesterday... Just because I overreached myself once, suddenly I'm eight years old again." she sighed frustratedly, and then remembered the overreaching indecent in more detail... "Oh. About that." She blushed. "I'm sorry for passing out on you. I had just used up too much magic, and I pushed past my limits." A beginner's mistake and she knew it.

Re: Tahi's Room
"Oh that's..." That's what happened. Kal had sort of explained that to him, in a more hostile way. "I just thought I bored you to death," he joked.
It had been awhile since he had had tea, thought recently he had been chugging coffee like it was going out of style. Which would never happen because 1) they exsited outside of time and 2) the mentors needed it.

Tahi laughed. "I promise, I would let you know if I was bored to death. Or rather, I'd rope you into some scheme or another to relieve said boredom." Her smile slipped a little as she thought of what Kal must have done to him when he found her. Not good. "But in all seriousness - I am sorry. It was a foolish thing to do, and I can't imagine Kal reacting well..." She sighed and turned towards her tea stash - which filled an entire drawer in her cupboard area.
"Pick your poison." She asked him. "I have Darjeeling, Passiflora, Chai, Green, White, Oolong, Jasmine, Raspberry, Blackberry, Ginseng, Ginger, Rooibos, Yerbamate, Orange, Lemon, Earl Grey, and the classic black."

"I'm still alive," he said with a shrug. He had gotten a rather annoying talking to, but other than that Kallistrates had left him alone. "You can pass out around me anytime." He was already half way done with the sentance before he wished he could suck it back in. He sounded ridiculous, and ... just weird.
"Uh, green please," he said quickly, not even trying to redeem that last comment.

Tahi drew out the green tea leaves, and placed them in the teapot, fixing Eos with a "what-was-that?" look. "Umm... Thanks for the offer - but I like staying conscious. It's easier to observe the world that way." He really said the weirdest things sometimes. Maybe it came from having lived so many years? Maybe it was a funny mortal expression she had never heard before. Mortals were always coming up with such strange sayings... Maybe that was it...
Deciding it was time for a change of topic, she asked "So, how are your lessons going?"

"Uh... good for the most part. Kind of boring. Especially when I have to teach first years how to hold a weapon the right way." He decided to leave out the part about Bjorn, and the stitches in his legs, and the fact that he probably wouldn't be able to run for a few weeks. "My spear broke, it was kind of old though." He fowned. "So I'll either have to fix it or get a new one."

Re: Tahi's Room
Tahi smiled. "First years require patience - but it's well worth it once you know them for a few more years. You get to watch them grow into the great warriors you know they can be. It's..." she paused, struggling for the right word. "special, I guess." she finished lamely. Not that she technically should have experience with any of this, but with her brother being the way he was - well - she had been teaching for a number of years now unofficially. This was just her first official stint.
"How did you break your spear?" She asked, as the kettle whistled, signaling that the water was boiling. "I can't imagine you walking around with it in bad condition..." She continued, pouring the water into the teapot and letting it steep.

Eos smiled as Tahi explained why it was worth it to teach at all. It was nice she cared so much. But right now all the first years could do was get on his nerves. But, he had to be pacient, and he knew it. his smile turned into a tight line as she asked about the spear.
"Well... I kind of... got into... another fight," he said pathetically, not haveing found a way to bend the truth.
