Fire in the hall

The lamia was bored.
Like.
Really.
Bored.
She was coiled within her tail and dragging her fingernail in the ballrooms dusty floor, creating fluid shapes and objects. She had always enjoyed drawing even though at home she never had much time for it, people were paid to paint HER not the other way around. If she were to win this tournament or indeed be born again, she would be an artist. She was sure of it.
Motioning her hand over the fragile lines, green and blue fire started to flicker to life in the dust, only just contained in the blurry barriers of the shapes. The Aztec admired the flaming shapes with her orange eyes and began working with the flames, dragging them around with grace as she started on a bigger project.
Unconsciously she started to sing to herself in her people's ancient language and her tail started to move with primal rythmn. She didn't miss her people that much, but the customs and her old way of life was starting to make her feel homesick. She missed the festivals, the colours, the sounds, the smells, the lush rainforest with its abundant creatures...she missed her friends and her homeland in general. Even if she wasn't there she would always remember her land and however good this place was it would never shake that memory and her feelings.
"It is done!" she clapped her hands together excitedly, her nostalgia fading as quickly as it came about and she stood high on her tail to get a good view of the name that was shimmering in the dust.
