Addi smiled. "I know what you mean. I wasn't entirely happy when I came here... and there are definitely some things here that I am not fond of... but its definitely grown on me."

"You know, that kind of thing used to make me really angry," she said thoughtfully. "If I hated something and then it grew on me. But...I guess I've changed, huh? In so short a time, too...funny how that works."

"If people stayed exactly the same, we would have gone extinct when the neanderthals did," she said conversationally. "Fact. They couldn't handle change on an extreme level, everything was based off memory, which is why they're not around anymore. I read it in some science magazine while I was bored one day."

"Because..." Jane tried to remember all the strange details about fossils and things. "Mostly by looking at fossils. Skull shape, or something. I don't quite remember, I went into law enforcement myself, so I don't remember details like that very easily..."

"Law enforcement?" Addi asked looking over at her friend as she began to lazily push herself toward the shore. "What's that?"

"I keep the peace, especially when someone's angry over something like their job, love life, anything, and get drastic over it. Not the safest job, or the most rewarding, but it's what I do." Jane shrugged. "What I enjoy doing, I suppose. I didn't want any other job."

"Well, I try at least. The whole team does. I was only a rookie though, never got a chance to get promoted. At least I'm luckier than all those other rookies that didn't make it to promotion." Jane stared up at the sky. "But we do our best. And I got this suit out of it too, it's the best baithing suit I could ever ask for..."

"A little. It was exhausting, and I didn't get to see my friends very often, but I got the job I'd wanted since I was a little kid, and I got to help people. It was a good job." Jane shrugged. "I guess it kind of took over my life, so if I miss my old life at all I miss my job."

"Did ... did you have any family in your time?" Adonia asked, hesitantly. She had often found that such questions could often be taken as offensive or cause pain, so she was hesitant to ask, but she couldn't help but be curious about her new friend.

"Not really," she said dismissively. "I mean, sure I had family, two older brothers as well as my parents, but we lost touch when I went to college, not that I spent much time at home anyway."

Addi cocked her head. It surprised her that the girl could be so dismissive of her family. Having grown up completely alone and wishing she had a family, Addi could not quite understand why anyone would be so willing to throw away something like that.

"I was always so busy...as were my parents. One of my brothers was a total slacker, we used to wrestle when I wasn't busy, or sometimes when I was and he just wanted to play. My other brother was always gone for sports, and the only reason why he didn't wrestle as well is because he could probably have accidentally broken one of our bones or something." She shrugged. "We weren't that different from other families, I guess."

Addi smiled a bit sadly as Jane described her siblings. "I've always wondered what it would be like to have a family." she said with a small sigh, before giving a more genuine smile. "Luckily I at least have a brother now..."

"Who's your brother?" she asked curiously, not saying that she hadn't really had any fabulous experiences with her family and it wasn't always as good as it sounded, because that was probably a time period thing. Besides, there were a few times when having an older brother or two came in really useful...

Adonia grinned sheepishly. "Lord Hesperos" she said, "Though I call him Eos... its easier to say (and type XD). He's not actually related to me, but he's been like a big brother to me. Its nice to finally have some family." she said with a small smile.

"Oh yeah, I think I know him," she said. "I've been trying to meet people and get who they all are down, but it's kind of hard...but it's always good to have someone there who you can rely on. Especially someone with some type of power, be it strength, authority, or both."
